The oldest of all the California missions was founded in 1769 by a Spanish missionary Junípero Serra. We visited it several times when we were living in San Diego and in my opinion, it is the most beautiful mission of all. The sunny weather gives it a bright cheerful appearance and welcoming air. The mission garden is usually a cemetery at the same time but in San Diego mission the garden is more like a garden though you can see several crosses there hidden among plants. The bell tower is very distinctive and the garden is really luscious. The complex includes museum and chapel as well.
