Monthly Photo Tip
| Slide Duplications by Joseph Cook , 1999 SDUPS Editor You’ve got the perfect image for the Photo Festival poster, but you’d also like to use it for your slide series. Or maybe you just don’t want to part with that special image for the next eight months. Your original image can never be replaced. You shouldn’t assume that others will take the same care with your images as you would. The answer, whenever you submit your images for publication, competitions, etc., use duplicates. Transparency duplicates and internegatives are created by taking a picture of the original. Just as the original image did not record all of the colors and light available in the scene, duplicates slides are more contrasty when compared to the original. Duplicators use special low contrast films that are specifically designed to help compensate for this problem. Because of this generational loss, duplicates and prints should only be made from the original image. |
All photo finishers offer a discount on orders of multiple
copies from one original and/or single copies from multiple originals.
The typical turnaround is two to three days, and rush service is available
at an extra charge. The following is a list of some of the local photo
finishers that offer duplication services (prices listed are for a single
duplicate from a single original.)
